Search Engines

What is a search engine ?

The world-wide web is a very, very, large collection of individual pages all joined together.  The question is,  in all these millions of pages, how is anyone going to see your page?  The obvious question is, is there a list, or a yellow pages, or similar?  The answer is yes.  A search engine is very simple to use, and operates like an index of all (or most) of the pages on the World Wide Web.

If you wanted information on cars, for example,  all that you need to do is type the word 'cars' in the space provided and press the 'search' button.  This will now search for all the entries that have used the word 'car' as a keyword in their description.  You will then see a list of these pages, and be able to link straight onto the page that interests you.

What does Internet - 4 - Life do ?
